Obama taps Boston EMS chief for No. 2 post at FEMA
President Obama announced this evening he is nominating Richard Serino, Boston's EMS chief, as deputy administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Here's the White House mini-biography:
Richard Serino has had an impressive career in emergency management and emergency medical services. Currently, he is the Chief of Emergency Medical Services and the Assistant Director for the Boston Public Health Commission. Previously, he has served as the Superintendent-in-Chief and a Superintendent for Field Operations for Boston Emergency Medical Services having rose through the ranks over 35 years. He has also served as a guest lecturer at Harvard and Boston University on homeland security and emergency preparedness issues and as a national faculty member for the Domestic Preparedness Program at the U.S. Department of Defense. He has also participated in Senior Leadership programs in national preparedness and homeland defense at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and at the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security.

Another hokey political payoff here...and again in Boston.
Sometimes I think the sewage runs on top of the streets instead of below.
Good for him. It is a loss for Boston but a good career move for Mr. Serino.
"Having ROSE through the ranks?" The White House has 4th grade interns now?
Well the 35 years didn't show much other than more trucks and more red tape. Send him to Washington.
Good for Mr Serino,
He seems like the only one with 'brains' willing to expand his horizons from Boston without going on City disability.
His Union must hate him as an 'honest guy' willing to do good nationally.
Naw-He must have made a deal with Osama.
It's no surprise that Boston EMS Chief Richard Serino has been nominated by President Obama for deputy administrator of FEMA. Bostons reputation as the hub of the medical world has always been acknowledged worldwide and under Chief Serino Boston EMS has also gained a worldwide reputation for excellence. Boston should be proud of his nomination and the country will be well served with the many years of experience in EMS and emergency preparedness that he will bring to the position.
That makes the number 1 and number 2 guy at FEMA both street medics who rose through the ranks and now oversee the National Fire Academy--- awesome.
After reading some of these comments, I no longer wonder why I was ridiculed
in Pax Centurion. Some people just hate success. They take a positive thing and turn it into a negative. They only want to see themselves grow and others fail. They just hate to see others do well. So with that said, Congratulations Chief Serino in your success. Keep Rising and don't forget to wave hi to the haters!
