WASHINGTON -- President Obama and his family will vacation at Martha's Vineyard during the last week of August, a White House spokesperson told the Globe this afternoon.

"They’ve spent vacation time there before and are looking forward to relaxing together as a family at the end of a very busy summer. We’ll have more details about the exact dates and location at a later date," the spokesperson said.

In the schedule for the weekend and next week issued tonight, the White House confirmed the plans that have been rumored and talked about for weeks.

Folks on the vacation destination off Cape Cod have already been preparing for the Obamas. The Clintons also spent holidays there when they were in the White House.

Vacation all you want once you've made serious improvements to the economy. Not before, after. The unemployment rate is creeping towards ten percent and the Obamas want to soak up some sun ? I think not.

Welcome to the Obamas! The Vineyard is a great place for a family vacation. The island could use the economic boost as well.

Fav,

Comment all you want after you've taken an Econ class. Will the global economy just miraculously cure itself after a few measures are preliminarily taken? I think not.

Good post, Jetflex, I agree. Fav, you need to chill.

Personally, I'm a proud fan of the Boston sports teams, and an even more proud fan of Martha's Vineyard (and Nantucket) - two of the most beautiful and quaint places to vacation on the planet. He's not slacking on the job, and he and his family deserve some down time - it's a tough job. Enjoy, Obama's, and welcome.

Jim
I believe you meant loser and not looser. www.dictionary.com is a great source of information on the web.
President Obama and his family deserve a much deserved vacation like all of us. He is doing a great job. I hope he and his family enjoy their time. I had the pleasure of vacationing with my family when the Clinton's visited MV.

How many vacations does this dude need to take?

Dear Jim,
It's loser, not "looser". It's hard to respect someone's opinion if they are unable to spell. Sorry.

So some of you need to get over it. It's one week. I watched Jack helicopter in from DC every Friday night for three years in the 60's.

Please, please leave Washington - PERMANENTLY!!! - but leave our Vineyard alone. Maybe a trip to the homeland would be in order. Now, let's see, just where did that elusive birth certificate go???

Fitting, Obama vacations with the other liberal socialist eliites. His huge spending, socialist agenda will take away our freedoms, enslave us with taxes, and kill the economy. Worst of all he is bankrolling the abortion mills, and millions of little girls will have their choice to live ignored, as they are dissected alive in the womb.

O though I walk through poverty, I trust in omnipotent Obama. As the wave of debt breaks over me, and I drown in taxes, I thank the rich liberals who have no cares. I spasm with joy, as my posterity slaves for the Messiah in Washington as he kills babies by the millions through abortion. His budget knows no bounds. My eyes open to the light of self sacrifice through toil for the Government. O that the elite may rule the kingdom to come and bless me with their wisdom forever

Typical Democrat. Cut health care for the elderly (they've had a good run; the sooner you can get their estates the better), then pat yourself on the back and go vacation on the Vineyard.

The economy is so good on Martha's Vineyard that you don't need the economic uptick this will provide. How fortunate for you.

What a miserable bunch, on average. He's been working REALLY hard (vs. his predecessor) and entitled to a break with his family- just like any hardworking person - and they chose the yineyard, vs. the rest of the country. It's very flattering and I hope they have a great, relaxing time.

Good for the Obamas. Wasn't that long go that an American President kept chopping wood totally oblivious to the fact that an American city was being flooded and thousands of citizens either drowning or in danger of.

Fav - Fortunately we have a president who is doing the job and not on permanent vacation like the previous one was during the entire Cheney puppeted Bush junta.
