President Obama this afternoon ordered that US flags fly at half-staff at the White House, all public buildings, all military posts, all naval vessels, and diplomatic outposts around the globe until sunset on Sunday to honor Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

The president also ordered that the official US flag fly at half-staff until sunset of the day of Kennedy's burial at Arlington National Cemetery, which has not been scheduled.

Obama's proclamation repeated his praise for Kennedy, calling him "not only one of the greatest senators of our time, but one of the most accomplished Americans ever to serve our democracy."
