Obama group presses on Senate seat
President Obama's political arm is keeping up the pressure on the Massachusetts legislature to allow a temporary replacement for the late Edward M. Kennedy.
Organizing for America sent out another blast email this morning to its Bay State members, urging them to call their state senators in favor of the bill that would allow Governor Deval Patrick to appoint an interim US senator until a special election in January.
The group's Massachusetts director, John Spears, notes that the state House approved the bill last week.
"But we're only halfway there," Spears continues in the email. The State Senate still has to approve the measure before Gov. Patrick can make an appointment -- and they could vote any day now.
"Even as I write, decisions are taking shape in Washington that will affect our families and businesses in every town and city in Massachusetts. We can't afford to wait until January for full representation. The Massachusetts State Senate could vote as soon as tomorrow -- so be sure to call today. Together, we can make it clear that the people of Massachusetts are calling for full representation, now."
