Brown shopping his story to book publishers

WASHINGTON -- Seeking to cash in quickly on his newfound celebrity and increase the power of his political brand name, US Senator Scott Brown is shopping his life story to book publishers, Brown's spokeswoman confirmed today.

Brown, who has been approached by several publishers, will work with a collaborator who hasn’t been named yet. He also has hired an agent, Robert Barnett, a high-powered Washington attorney whose other clients include President Obama, President Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Lynne Cheney.

“He will tell his story in a book in hopes of providing insight and encouragement to others and also to ensure that the record is complete and accurate,” said Gail Gitcho, Brown’s communications director. “Part of the book proceeds will be donated to charity. Senator Brown will work with a collaborator so he can continue to focus fully on his service to the people of Massachusetts, which is, and always will be, his first priority.”

The book will be a biography, focused on his life story of being raised by a single-mother on welfare and rising to the US Senate in last month's upset election. Of course, there may also be further details from pop culture, including his infamous photo spread in Cosmopolitan magazine and his daughter's participation in American Idol. News of the book was first reported by Politico this morning.

Brown's surprise victory in January made him an instant media superstar. He has been interviewed by Barbara Walters, appeared with Jay Leno, and was satirized on Saturday Night Live.

David Guarino, a political strategist and spokesman for former Massachusetts House Speaker Salvatore F. DiMasi, this morning put a suggested title on his twitter account: “From Cosmo to Cloture: My Short Ride to the Top (in a Truck)"
