Hodes supports Warren for director of new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau
As chair of the Congressional Oversight Panel that holds Wall Street accountable for the $700 billion dollar bailout, Harvard Law Professor and bankruptcy expert Elizabeth Warren has become a polarizing and visible consumer advocate in the post-housing bust era.
These days, Warren’s prowess and prominence makes her a leading candidate to become the director of the new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and in a letter to the President today, Representative Paul Hodes of New Hampshire voiced his support for her nomination.
“Middle class families and small business owners in New Hampshire are fighting hard to turn our economy around, but shady lenders, manipulative credit card companies, and Wall Street greed could turn our progress on its heels,” said Hodes in a statement. “Dr. Warren has been a fighter, protecting middle class families every step of the way.”

Dear Mr. President,I was proud to fight alongside you to pass the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, because I believe that one of the keys to rebuilding our economy lies in reining in the Wall Street special interests and strengthening the voice of middle class families.
For too long, Wall Street banks, shady mortgage lenders, and manipulative credit card companies have had free rein over the middle class. As a result, we’ve seen our jobs, our savings, and our economy suffer. Middle class families across the country are fighting hard to restore their lives and our economy to where it belongs -- and I know that you are as committed as I am to fighting on their side, but we are not yet finished.
That is why I believe that we need a strong fighter for the middle class to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, and I hope you agree that Dr. Elizabeth Warren is exactly the kind of leader that we need in this critical role.
Middle class Americans need a tough fighter like Dr. Warren to hold the Wall Street banks and credit card companies accountable. She saw what an out-of-control Wall Street was doing to our economy, and has fought hard every step of the way to tip the scales away from special interests and back towards average hard-working Americans.
In order for middle class families across the country to regain confidence that our economy is working for them, and not Wall Street special interests, I strongly support Dr. Warren to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
