Zoo breeds unusual Madagascar lemur

The Bristol Zoo Gardens in England announced Friday that it successfully bred and hand-reared an aye-aye in captivity, only the second zoo worldwide to do so.

Kintana, at 8 weeks old, is still being hand-fed by zookeepers and eventually will be returned to its mother.

The aye-aye, an endangered type of lemur from Madagascar, is a nocturnal primate that lives in trees and hunts grubs. The species is endangered because of deforestation and prejudice -- many Madagascar natives believe its presence is an evil omen.
