LDK Solar gets 440 MW solar wafer contract

SIOUX FALLS, S.D.—Chinese solar product maker LDK Solar Co. Ltd. said Friday it will supply about 440 megawatts of solar wafers to South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., the world's largest shipbuilder.

Delivery will begin in 2009 and run through 2015. Financial terms were not disclosed, except that Hyundai Heavy Industries will make a down payment representing part of the contract value.

Shares of LDK Solar jumped $1.75, or 3.4 percent, to $52.60 in premarket trading.
