
Male and female king penguins look almost identical. Chicks are covered
with brown, downy feathers and look so different from adults they were once
thought to be a different species. Unlike most penguins, that can hop when
on land, king penguins can only walk or run. Even in big colonies, each
king family has its own space: Adults slap or peck any other penguin that
gets too close.
