The lives of Antarctic king penguins

King penguins breed in colonies of tens of thousands of individuals. Females lay their eggs during the summer months and both females and males alternate keeping the egg warm by placing it on top of their feet tucked in a fold of warm skin under the belly. Raising young king penguins takes about 13 months.
