Governor Deval Patrick has canceled his events today after his eldest daughter, Sarah, became "ill and temporarily disoriented" while at dinner last night, a spokesman said.

Sarah Patrick is in stable condition and will remain in the hospital today to undergo testing and observation, the spokesman, Brendan Ryan, said in a statement.

Patrick and his wife, Diane, are spending the day with Sarah, Ryan said. No further information was immediately available.

In September, the governor officiated at Sarah Patrick's wedding to Marco Morgese at the Patricks' "Sweet P Farm" in Richmond.

Today, the governor had been scheduled to attend a symposium on water technology in Boston, a dedication ceremony for a bike bridge in Wellesley, an announcement about energy in Newton, an energy-efficiency event in Malden and an evening ceremony where Diane Patrick was to receive a health care award.
