Suspect shot after confrontation with police in Lynn
A Lynn man was shot by police after an incident in which the car the suspect was riding in rammed a police vehicle, officials said.
About 9:30 last night, officers observed Brandon Payne walking with a weapon in the area of Essex Street, according to a statement from the Lynn Police Department. Payne then got into a car with other men inside. Police attempted to stop that car and another vehicle that was following the first car, police said.
The car carrying Payne rammed a police vehicle during the stop, police said. Lynn officers and a Massachusetts State trooper then fired at the suspect, according to the statement.
Payne was struck twice, and transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.
Three other suspects were also taken into custody. Two of those suspects are from Lynn, the other is a New Jersey man.
The suspects are charged with assault with a dangerous weapon (a motor vehicle) and firearm charges.
They will be arraigned today in Lynn District Court.
The shooting remains under investigation.
