Senator Elizabeth Warren grills regulators, videos go viral
Senator Elizabeth Warren's first hearing with financial regulators garnered a vast amount of attention: the videos of the exchange have gone viral, accumulating hundreds of thousands of views.
As a member of the Senate Banking Committee, Warren questioned seven regulators and asked them to recount the instances of when they had taken big financial institutions to trial.
The clips captured two exchanges with the senator: one was with Tom Curry, Comptroller of the Currency, and the other with Elisse Walter, chairwoman of the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Curry responded by referencing out-of-court settlements and replied: "We do not have to bring people to trial."
Warren simply said: “I appreciate that you say you do not have to bring people to trial...My question is-- when did you bring them to trial?”
This isn't the first instance in which Warren's fiery rhetoric got attention. Back in August 2011, a video of her at a house party went viral, and her words, “There is nobody in this country who got rich on his own, nobody,” became a key philosophy in her campaign strategy.
