The Susan G. Komen 3-Day will not return to Boston next year, according to a statement from the organization. A lack of participation at the event was cited as the reason for pulling the breast cancer awareness walk out of Boston as well as Tampa Bay, Arizona, Chicago, Cleveland, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C.
"While the 3-Day has brought great awareness to the breast cancer cause, participation levels over the last four years have made it difficult to sustain an event of this magnitude in 14 cities," the statement read.
The annual event starts on a Friday and participants walk approximately 20 miles each day for three days. They also camp out each night in pink sleeping tents. Every participant is required to raise at least $2,300 for the event, and the funds go to community education and outreach programs for breast cancer awareness.
The 3-Day is still scheduled for July 26-28 in Boston this year. The walk will go on in 2014 in Atlanta, Dallas/Fort Worth, Michigan, Philadelphia, San Diego, Seattle and the Twin Cities.
