Many Super Bowl parties this year may be short on queso following a recall on more than a half million cases of Velveeta products.
The recall comes at the heels of a reported shortage of the processed cheese product due to a high demand and a manufacturing lag.
Velveeta took to Tumblr to send a message to its fans thanking them for their support as they experience a shortage of "our nation’s most precious commodity: Liquid Gold."
Truitt Brothers, a company that makes Kraft Velveeta products has recalled some Kraft Velveeta pasta and ground beef products because the package labels failed to disclose that the product may contain soy. The products have expiration dates of March 2 to Oct. 23 on them.
Looks like the short-term effect of what Velvetta has called the current 'Cheesepocalypse' is that many Super Bowl recipes may have to substitute the processed cheese product with, say, real cheese. That may not be a bad thing.
