The Jennifer Lawrences of Hollywood take a year off to soak in their accomplishments. The Alec Baldwins, who've had more than a fair share of publicized temper tantrums, want out. For good.

In a 5,000 word essay in the Feb. 24 issue of New York Magazine, the actor -- known for his rants off screen -- announced his exit from public life following years of criticism and labeling he says he's experienced from the media.

"I've lived this for 30 years, I'm done with it," he wrote.

Baldwin recounted a failed Broadway play, a failed talk show, and being called a 'homophobic bigot,' by news personalities like Anderson Cooper, among the events that led to his decision to leave the public eye.

"I loathe and despise the media in a way I did not think possible," Baldwin wrote. "This is the last time I'm going to talk about my personal life in an American publication ever again."

Sounds like this is the real deal, because let's face it, he has had some crazy rants over the last decade. But is this just another publicity stunt?

In 2012, Baldwin told Men's Journal that he had no "interest in acting anymore" and that he planned to quit show business when his 30 Rock sitcom contracts ended in 2012.

That didn't happen.

Baldwin also said he's ready to move out of New York City.

"Everything I hated about L.A. I'm beginning to crave. L.A. is a place where you live behind a gate, you get in a car, your interaction with the public is minimal. I used to hate that. But New York has changed."

So, what's next for the embattled actor wanting to escape himself? Perhaps a new gig as Tony Bennett's double?
