Don't be alarmed if you've never heard of a BBC television show called "Snog, Marry, Avoid?" The makeover show is probably not very well known in the US, but the premise is simple: using what the show calls a "make-under," strip away the over-styled hair and layers of make up in order to show contestants their natural beauty, then ask what people think.

Normally this isn't anything to think twice about, but in recent days, one of the show's contestants has gotten a dose of Internet fame due to her truly dramatic transformation.

Her name is Mel and she hails from Liverpool, England. As you can tell from the video above, she has a pretty unique style and is described by the show as a punk rocker.

As you might expect, the pink, the piercings, and the leather only lasted for about two and a half minutes once the show got a hold of her. With some seemingly simple changes, Mel goes from intimidating punk rocker to a more traditional look she said made her feel sexy.

Well, that new look didn't last very long either.

Mel talked to a British tabloid called the Daily Star and told them despite what she said on the show, the new look wasn't for her.

"I liked the look, but I felt like I looked like my mother," she told the tabloid. "I really liked the dress but I just felt so uncomfortable."

Some people might think that she's wasting what could be a life-changing makeover, but Mel's rejection of the "normal" standards for beauty actually feels refreshing. These makeover shows tend to reinforce the same ideas of what looks good and what doesn't, and that isn't really fair. Mel's punk style might be unique, but that doesn't mean it's bad.
