A rare bit of good news for commuters on a Monday morning: The Callahan Tunnel reopened shortly before 5 a.m. after being closed for more than two months.
The tunnel, which connects East Boston and Logan International Airport with the North End, underwent a $25 million facelift, including a new deck and curb.
The Boston Globe reported that the company running the project will receive some extra cash for beating a deadline:
McCourt Construction will get a $143,000 bonus for finishing the project two days earlier than planned.
The Callahan Tunnel opened in 1961.
