"First Sniff" video shows puppy love is just as awkward as human love

We've all been there: awkwardly silent, unusually sweaty, and trying to find the exact right moment to plant that first kiss on a new love. It's a feeling so familiar that almost 44 million people have watched a Youtube video based on that exact premise.

Well, little did we know, dogs seem to experience a similarly awkward tension when meeting new friends. As parodies of the now-famous "First Kiss" video roll out en masse, only "First Sniff" has really proved to be worthwhile.

When compared to the original video (which dishearteningly turned out to be a clothing advertisement), the dog version is really well done. The premise is the same, the artsy black and white footage is the same, the soundtrack (Soko's "We Might Be Dead by Tomorrow") is the same, and the behavior of the pooch participants is remarkably similar.

At first there's a lot of "will they, won't they" as the dogs steal glances at their partners, but eventually they all warm up to the idea of checking out their counterpart. Most of the results are incredibly adorable, but the dog at the :54 mark looked a bit panicked.

Poor pup. That little dog is clearly thinking, "Oh dear god, its crotch is on my head." And who could blame it for thinking that? The bigger dog is probably one of those overly friendly types that tries to take things too far, too fast. We've all been there, too, right?

"First Sniff" actually does a better job than "First Kiss" at relating to a human's awkward romantic moments (even if there is more butt sniffing than we usually experience).

Let's just hope the dogs don't turn out to be actors. That would suck.
