"The task of approving judicial appointments is one that I feel particularly committed to. As a retired lawyer, I can bring critical background and training to this role without concern of professional conflicts with those up for appointment."

Issues

Council's value

What is the value of the Governor's Council?

"There hasn't been a Republican on the Governor's Council in 20 years. It is easy to question the value of this board without bipartisan representation to challenge what are ultimately political appointments.

Further, the lack of requirement that members be lawyers puts the quality of this board's choices in question, as evaluating fitness to serve as a judge takes a professional understanding of the tasks involved.

Electing me to serve as Governor's Councilor for the Second District will restore credibility to this body on both accounts and give this governmental body a chance to resume its critical role in the checks-and-balances system of our state."

New ideas

What new ideas or proposals will you bring to the council?

"Few citizens of Massachusetts are even aware of the Governor's Council. It will be my goal to bring the workings of this board to the public's attention."
