Summer of the sharkThriving seal populations in the waters off Massachusetts were blamed for the unusual number of great white shark sightings this summer. The fearsome fish prompted the closure of several beaches, and sparked a collective, Jaws-like fascination with the deadly creatures, even luring droves of tourists to the Cape (but not into the water).
