Times Square bomb attempt
On May 1, a smoking vehicle in New York's Times Square sparked an evacuation of thousands of people. Although the bomb inside never went off, the perpetrator left no doubt that the threat was real. In pleading guilty to the attempted attack, Faisal Shahzad admitted his intent was to injure or kill people.
