Answers sought

At least eight local, state, and federal agencies are involved in investigations after Big Dig tunnel ceiling panels fell and killed a Jamaica Plain woman. Lawmakers are also considering a commission that would examine the Big Dig project.

FEDERAL CRIMINAL AGENCIES

US Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and the FBI had a task force assigned to investigate fraud and corruption in the Big Dig before Monday's accident. Four additional agents, who hold degrees in civil or architectural engineering, have been assigned to the existing Big Dig task force.

STATE CRIMINAL AGENCIES

Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly is conducting criminal investigation that could lead to negligent homicide charges. He is working with Sullivan's office and Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.

INSPECTIONS

The State Highway Department and the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority are conducting safety inspections of tunnels.

The Federal Highway Administration is conducting an investigation.

The National Transportation Safety Board is conducting a formal investigation of the Big Dig tunnel collapse.

COMMISSIONS

State Senator Therese Murray and other lawmakers are considering a blue ribbon commission to investigate.

US Representative Michael E. Capuano, a Somerville Democrat, is considering introducing federal legislation to create a special commission.
