The Massachusetts Turnpike Authority under former chairman Matthew J. Amorello substantially increased the amount of its charitable contributions -- some to groups and events associated with key legislators -- in the first half of this year when Amorello and the authority were under increasing pressure from Governor Mitt Romney over the Big Dig.
