PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A high wind warning for parts of Rhode Island is accompanying a wintry weather mix that’s hitting the region.
The warning issued by the National Weather Service is in effect from 10 p.m. Wednesday through 11 a.m. Thursday. It applies to Bristol, Newport and Washington counties, as well as Block Island.
Winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour are expected, with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
Wintry weather was reported across Rhode Island by Wednesday night, with state police responding to several accidents around the state.
Forecasters are calling for rain and snow Wednesday evening in Providence, then rain after midnight that could be heavy at times and continue into Thursday.
Northern Rhode Island and western parts of the state could get up to four inches of snow.
