HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut’s governor has announced a ban on motor vehicle travel on the state’s limited access highways.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says the ban takes effect at 4 p.m. and does not extend to emergency response and recovery vehicles.

A storm is expected to bring as much as 2 feet of snow to the region through Saturday, and dozens of accidents were reported on state roadways by early Friday afternoon.

Malloy said that roads need to kept clear for emergency personnel and utility crews as the weather deteriorates.

The state coordinated its travel ban with Massachusetts and New York.end of story marker
