PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — Coastal residents of Maine are being told to brace for the possibility of significant flooding as a major winter storm bears down on New England.
The National Weather Service says the storm surge will come on top of astronomically high tides. The tides could reach 11-13 feet at around 10 a.m. on Saturday. Forecasters say the result could be moderate to possibly major flooding and beach erosion, especially along the southern Maine coast.
Offshore seas could reach 25-30 feet.
A coastal flood warning will be in effect from 4 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday from the mid-coast of Maine to the New Hampshire seacoast.
