PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — A winter storm is expected to bring snow and strong winds to Rhode Island.

The National Weather Service has a winter weather advisory in effect for most of the state from Thursday morning until Friday afternoon. It says around three to five inches of heavy, wet snow could accumulate. Northern Rhode island is expected to get the most snow.

The weather service warns that roads could get slippery and travel could be difficult.

The high winds could also cause power outages.

On Block Island, the weather service advises that there could be some minor coastal flooding, which could cause beach erosion in areas hit hard hit by Superstorm Sandy.end of story marker
