PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) — The National Weather Service has issued a flood warning for the Pawtuxet River because of heavy rains from the year’s first tropical storm.
The warning for the river in Providence and Kent counties goes into effect late Friday night.
Forecasters say the remnants of Tropical Storm Andrea will bring to southern New England between three and four inches of rain through Saturday morning.
The weather service says the Pawtuxet River is expected to crest at 9.4 feet by Saturday morning. Flood stage is 9 feet. Minor flooding is expected.
The river should fall below flood stage by early Saturday afternoon.
The heavy rains could bring additional minor flooding to the state, including in urban areas and areas with poor drainage.
