As Bostonians dig out of the mess the blizzard left behind, they will find some new rules and recommendations:
Mayor Thomas M. Menino urged Bostonians to stay off the city streets long enough for public works crews to clear them.Boston public schools are closed today and tomorrow. Schools in most other area towns and cities are also closed today.Nonessential city employees do not have to report to work today.People who do have to work should use public transportation.The snow emergency parking ban remains in effect in the city and many surrounding communities.Parking is banned within 20 feet of an intersection, as is double parking.Residents should shovel out fire hydrants and should not shovel snow into the streets.Wheelchair ramps should be kept clear.There will be no trash or recycling collections in the city until Wednesday.Residents are urged to check on elderly neighbors and others who may be in need.More information on parking restrictions and closures can be found at www.cityofboston.gov/snow, or by calling 617-635-3050 with specific questions.
