Evacuee asked to leave base for 'disruptive behavior'

Nearly two weeks after fleeing hurricane-ravaged New Orleans and seeking shelter on Cape Cod, an evacuee was asked to leave Camp Edwards because of what officials called ''repeated disruptive behavior."

Allen ''Tattoo" Gubser, 39, of New Orleans, was asked to leave Otis Air National Guard Base on Friday morning, said a spokeswoman for the state's Executive Office of Public Safety.

''While we want to be welcoming to the guests who are here, we also have to respect the fact that Otis is an active military base," said spokeswoman Katie Ford.

Ford said Gubser had violated several rules on the base. She said he was frequently drunk, got into arguments, and threatened others with his dog. Ford said that on Thursday night, Gubser was ''severely intoxicated" and had to be taken by State Police to their barracks in Bourne and placed in protective custody.

Both Gubser and Ford said that Gubser was asked to leave the base once he returned from protective custody. On Friday, Gubser, a female companion, and the dog were offered plane tickets to any destination in the United States, provided by the Salvation Army. Gubser chose to leave for San Francisco yesterday and spent Friday night with a friend in Boston.

Gubser denies that he was disruptive and said he intends to file a lawsuit. Gubser said he drank one beer during dinner at a restaurant off the base Thursday.

''I have witnesses saying I wasn't drunk" he said.
