All the severe weather is staying to the south of Massachusetts overnight. Periods of rain, some of it heavy, is the only weather problem through morning. There may be some street flooding in areas that receive a lot of rain. During Friday the rain will end but there is still the risk of a more showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon. It will be warm and muggy. The weekend isn't looking stellar to start but improves dramatically Sunday. If I had to rank the upcoming weekend on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being best, we are going to be about a 2 on Saturday and an 8 on Sunday. It does appear that next week we will see more sunshine and a period of drier air. Do you have weather question or thought about the blog? Friday and the weekend
Friday and Saturday look unsettled but not washouts. Whatever happens later today and overnight there will be additional rounds of showers Friday and Saturday. A front that divides the hot and humid air from cooler and less humid air will stall through our area. As this happens, areas of showers will move along the stalled boundary like a train along a set of tracks. There will be gaps in the shower activity, but when an area goes through it could produce heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Without much sunshine Friday and Saturday temperatures will remain in the 70s. I expect the best chance of rain to be Friday morning and later Saturday afternoon. There will be many hours of dry weather between the rain.
Sunday will see a dramatic improvement to our weather with a return to sunshine, less humidity and pleasant temperatures. It may be that Sunday is a very good beach day as well. The one issue that could happen is that the front stalls Sunday and the clearing is postponed till Monday. I am reasonably confident that isn't going to happen.
I know that losing part of a weekend in July to weather isn't preferable, but we have had some amazing weekends of weather for much of the spring and summer. This is all little consolation I am sure if this upcoming weekend is part of your vacation on the beach. Next week looks generally nice with a day of showers around Wednesday. More on that much later.
Gardening tip of the week
We have a new video for you today on a special coreopsis I planted. This is a great perennial that will come back each year and get wider and more floreforous each year. I like this video because it gives you a good understanding of how to plant almost anything. Check it out.
