After a spectacular winter day Sunday, our weather turns downhill for the morning commute. Warmer air will move north today and cause a period of mixed precipitation. There could be a coating to 2 inches of this "stuff", mostly north of the Mass Pike and west of Boston. Since this is possible, a winter weather advisory has been issued.
The good news is that the air quickly be warming, so any road issues will not last all day. I'll be updating the forecast throughout the week on Twitter at @growingwisdom have a great day.
Once we see the change to rain, I am looking for about a quarter to a half inch of rain which could leave a few big puddles on some of the roads. You may be concerned with the snow on your roof and the added weight of the water. Unless you have had issues before with your roof, I would not be worried. Most of the snow that fell, with the exception of Cape Cod, was quiet light and contains little water content. Adding the amount of rain we are expecting by dark to the snow isn't going to cause your roof to collapse. Many industrial buildings with flat roofs often have issues with snow and water. Also, there isn't close to a record amount of snow on the ground since we started from no snow before this storm. Further, it was mild yesterday and significant ice dams have not had a chance to form.
The rain will end around dark. The next several days look mild and sunny with more melting. As we head to the weekend there could be additional showers with temperatures in the 40s. There is going be a large storm passing to our south Wednesday and Thursday. I do expect this to miss the region, but I will keep an eye out for any changes that might impact the track of the storm.
Gardening this week
This week I have a video on one of the easiest plants you can grow. The jade plant is one of those houseplants that is almost foolproof. Spend a few minutes learning more about this minimal care plant.
I'd love to here from you. Please find me on Twitter at @growingwisdom and send me a question.
