American deaths

The Pentagon has released the names of the following US service members killed recently in Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to an Associated Press count, at least 3,864 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war began in March 2003. At least 28,451 have been wounded, the military says. In and around Afghanistan, at least 398 US personnel have died and 1,754 have been wounded since the war began in October 2001, the Pentagon said.

Petty Officer Second Class Kevin R. Bewley, 27, of Hector, Ark., on Nov. 5 in Salah ad Din Province. Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11, Oak Harbor, Wash.

Sergeant Daniel J. Shaw, 23, of West Seneca, N.Y., on Nov. 5 in Taji. Army First Battalion, Ninth Infantry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Four soldiers were killed on Nov. 5 in Tal Al-Dahab: Staff Sergeant Carletta S. Davis, 34, of Anchorage, Alaska; Staff Sergeant John D. Linde, 30, of New York; Sergeant Derek T. Stenroos, 24, of North Pole, Alaska; Private First Class Adam J. Muller, 21, of Underhill, Vt. Davis was assigned to the Army 10th Brigade Support Battalion, First Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y. Linde, Stenroos, and Muller were assigned to the Army First Brigade Special Troops Battalion, First Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.

Captain Benjamin D. Tiffner, 31, of West Virginia, on Nov. 7 in Baghdad. Army First Battalion, Fifth Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Sergeant Lui Tumanuvao, 29, of Fagaalu, American Samoa, on Nov. 7 in Arab Jabour. Army First Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, Fort Stewart, Ga.

Specialist Jermaine D. Franklin, 22, of Arlington, Texas, on Nov. 9 in Jisr Naft. Army First Squadron, 32d Cavalry Regiment, First Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

In Afghanistan

Two soldiers were killed on Nov. 9 in Aranus: First Lieutenant Matthew C. Ferrara, 24, of Torrance, Calif.; Specialist Sean K. A. Langevin, 23, of Walnut Creek, Calif. Both were assigned to the Army Second Battalion, 503d Airborne Infantry Regiment, 173d Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.

Three soldiers were killed on Nov. 10 in Aranus: Sergeant Jeffery S. Mersman, 23, of Parker, Kan.; Specialist Lester G. Roque, 23, of Torrance, Calif.; Private First Class Joseph M. Lancour, 21, of Swartz Creek, Mich. All were assigned to the Army Second Battalion, 503d Airborne Infantry Regiment, 173d Airborne Brigade Combat Team, Vicenza, Italy.
