KATHMANDU (Reuters) - Nepali police opened fire on Sunday on anti-king protesters demanding the restoration of democracy, killing one person, an official said.

The shooting took place in Banepa, about 30 km (20 miles) east of the capital Kathmandu, when demonstrators tried to storm a police post, a Home Ministry official told Reuters.

It was the third death from firing by troops in the troubled Himalayan kingdom since a nationwide strike and protests were launched against King Gyanendra's rule on Thursday.
