American deaths

The Pentagon has released the names of the following US service members killed recently in Iraq.

According to an Associated Press count, at least 3,598 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war began in March 2003. At least 26,558 have been wounded, the military says.

Five soldiers were killed on June 28 in Baghdad: Sergeant Shin W. Kim, 23, of Fullerton, Calif.; Sergeant Michael J. Martinez, 24, of Chula Vista, Calif.; Sergeant Giann C. Joya Mendoza, 27, of North Hollywood, Calif.; Specialist Dustin L. Workman II, 19, of Greenwood, Neb.; Private First Class Cory F. Hiltz, 20, of La Verne, Calif. All were assigned to the Army Second Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, Second Infantry Division, Fort Carson, Colo.

Sergeant William W. Crow Jr., 28, of Grandview Plaza, Kan., on June 28 in Baghdad. Army Second Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Specialist James L. Adair, 26, of Carthage, Texas, on June 29 in Baghdad. Army First Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, Fourth Infantry Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kan.

Staff Sergeant Robb L. Rolfing, 29, of Milton, Mass., on June 30 in Baghdad. Army Second Battalion, 10th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Carson, Colo.

Two marines were killed on July 1 off the shore of Anbar Province: Lance Corporal William C. Chambers, 20, of Ringgold, Ga.; Lance Corporal Jeremy L. Tinnel, 20, of Mechanicsville, Va. Both were assigned to the Marine First Battalion, Second Marine Regiment, II Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Private First Class Jonathan M. Rossi, 20, of Safety Harbor, Fla., on July 1 in Baghdad. Army Second Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, Fourth Brigade Combat Team, First Cavalry Division, Fort Bliss, Texas.

Specialist Victor A. Garcia, 22, of Rialto, Calif., on July 1 in Baghdad. Army First Battalion, 38th Infantry Regiment, Fourth Brigade, Second Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Wash.

Sergeant First Class Raymond R. Buchan, 33, of Johnstown, Pa., on July 1 in Ta'meem. Army First Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.

Staff Sergeant Michael L. Ruoff Jr., 31, of Yosemite, Calif., on July 1 in Ta'meem. Army First Battalion, 77th Armor Regiment, Second Brigade Combat Team, First Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany.
