The Pentagon has released the names of the following US service members killed recently in Iraq and Afghanistan. According to an Associated Press count, at least 3,921 members of the US military have died since the Iraq war began in March 2003. At least 28,870 have been wounded, the military says. In Afghanistan, at least 472 US personnel have died and 1,851 have been wounded.

Petty Officer Second Class Menelek M. Brown, 24, of Roswell, N.M., was declared dead Jan. 4 after apparently going overboard from USS Hopper in the Arabian Sea on Jan. 3. Navy aircraft and ships conducted an extensive search but did not locate him. USS Hopper is based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
