Estimates of Internet use in China vary widely because of different definitions of what constitutes a user.
According to BDA China, a Beijing consulting group, China surpassed the total number of US Internet users in February. It said China has 225 million users, compared with about 220 million in the United States. The numbers are based on figures from the China Internet Network Information Center, which estimated that users in China rose by 53 percent, from 137 million to 210 million, from the end of 2006 to the end of 2007.
According to the Computer Industry Almanac, the United States still has 50 million more users, as of year-end 2007. Another company, ComScore, an Internet research firm, sees the United States ahead by more than 65 million users.
