As recently as 1970, there were 107 countries with fertility rates higher than five children per woman. By 2004, only 27 countries had fertility rates this high. Which is the only country (or territory) outside Africa with a fertility rate above five children per woman?

C. Yemen is correct.

Yemen has a fertility rate of 5.9, the 16th highest level in the world. Among the 34 countries with the highest fertility rates, Yemen is the only non-African nation. Since 1970, fertility in the country has fallen by only 1.8 births per woman.

Guatemala has the highest rate in Latin America, but at 4.4 children per woman, it ranks 38th in the world. Laos has the highest rate in Asia, at 4.6 children per woman the world's 35th highest.

With a fertility rate of 0.86, Macao has the lowest fertility in the world, slightly below that of Hong Kong (0.93). The highest fertility rate in the world is found in Niger, with 7.8 births per woman.
