KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia—A tribunal formed by Malaysia's former leader has convicted former President George W. Bush and Britain's ex-prime minister Tony Blair at a symbolic trial for "crimes against peace" in Iraq.

Malaysia's outspoken former leader Mahathir Mohamad founded a peace organization that set up the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal specifically for trying Bush and Blair.

Mahathir's son, Mukhriz Mahathir, said international judges and lawyers convicted the men Tuesday for crimes against peace over the 2003 Iraq invasion. It plans to hear symbolic war crimes charges against them later.

Malaysian activists say they sent information about the charges to Bush and Blair but received no response.
