Xiarhos, 21, of Yarmouth, graduated in June 2006 from Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School and headed right off to Marine boot camp. He was the son of a veteran local police lieutenant. "We watched him grow up," said Yarmouth Police Chief Michael Almonte. "Many officers on the Yarmouth Police Department watched their whole family grow up.
All of us feel we've lost a member
of our family."
An automatic weapons gunner and squad leader with the Second
Battalion, Eighth Marine Weapons Company, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C., Xiarhos died July 23 after being wounded in combat in Afghanistan's Garmsir District. He had previously served in intense fighting in Anbar, Iraq.
