New England's War Dead: Afghanistan

Captain Daniel Eggers, 28, Hollis, N.H.

Eggers was killed May 29, 2004, when his Humvee entered a field of land mines in Afghanistan. He grew up in Hollis and graduated from The Citadel, in South Carolina. There, he became part of a controversy when he and a fellow senior went public with allegations that school officials covered up hazing of female cadets. He served as a Green Beret, in a role that his father called "a James Bond kind of guy," and was fluent in Arabic. He left his wife, Rebecca, also an Army captain, and two children.
