Conlon's passion for poetry was remembered at his funeral at Christ the King Church in Mashpee. As a senior in high school, he had a collection of his poems published as a class project, said the Rev. Daniel F. Hoye. Conlon's aunt, Victoria Baron, read an anonymous poem that said in part: "When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room . . . . Miss me, but let me go." Conlon was killed Aug. 15 in a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan.
