TORONTO—Ontario's legislature has ordered Toronto transit workers back to work Sunday, ending a surprise public transit strike.
The strike began late Friday after transit workers voted against a tentative contract agreement.
Many of the 1.5 million people who use Toronto's subway, buses and streetcars were forced to walk, call cabs or find other ways to get around on the weekend.
Ontario lawmakers voted to impose fines on workers and the union if they failed to heed a back-to-work order. Service resumed Sunday afternoon.![]()
