Pope to mafia: Repent or face hell

Pope Francis has a very strong message for Italy’s mafia: Repent or hell awaits you.

Francis delivered a powerful rebuke of organized crime on Friday during a vigil at a Roman church for relatives of children killed by the mafia, the Associated Press reports.

"This life that you live now won't give you pleasure. It won't give you joy or happiness," he said. "Blood-stained money, blood-stained power, you can't bring it with you to your next life. Repent. There's still time to not end up in hell, which is what awaits you if you continue on this path."

The pontiff also made an emotional appeal for Italy’s mobsters to give up their criminal activity and repent.

The National Catholic Reporter reports:

"Men and women of the Mafia, please change your lives, convert, stop doing evil," the pope said at a prayer vigil Friday. "I ask on my knees and for your own good."

Francis continued plea with:

"There is still time not to end up in hell, which awaits you if you continue on this road," Pope Francis said. "You had a papa and a mamma. Think of them, weep a little and convert."
