If you thought Ukraine’s politics couldn’t get odder, think again.

According to The Telegraph, the Ukrainian Internet Party’s candidate for mayor of Kiev and Odessa was an anonymous individual disguised as “Star Wars” character “Darth Vader.”

Unfortunately, The Sith Lord was refused the right to cast his vote in the Sunday, May 25 mayoral elections. It turns out you can’t be wearing a mask while voting. Weird.

The UIP has been known for its theatrical publicity stunts, but choosing The Sith Lord as its candidate just might take the cake.

The political party, according to The Washington Post, runs on a platform of “rooting out public corruption and reducing bureaucracy,” despite its founder’s history of debit and credit card fraud. It also claims to support “the computerization of the entire country” and “free computer courses and foreign languages at the expense of the budget.”

In March, Darth Vader, who is often seen flanked by costumed Stormtroopers, announced he would be running for president, but his bid was rejected by the central electoral commission.

That still didn’t stop him from later formally registering to run for mayor of Kiev and Odessa, though.

Vader apparently told NBC reporters that if elected, he won’t remove his helmet, keeping his anonymity a secret.

We can only hope that “Yoda” and “Chewbacca” will be there for him if he doesn’t win.
