Lufthansa increasing fuel surcharge as oil prices climb
BERLIN—Deutsche Lufthansa AG said Thursday that it is increasing its fuel surcharge again as oil prices surge to all-time highs.
Lufthansa, Germany's biggest airline, said the surcharge will increase to 21 euros ($32.50) from 17 euros ($26.30) per flight on European and domestic German routes for all tickets issued on or after May 14.
On long-haul routes, the surcharge will increase to 82 euros ($126.80) from 77 euros ($119.10) per flight, Lufthansa said in a statement.
Lufthansa last increased its fuel surcharge for European flights in mid-March, and last raised the charge for long-haul routes in November.
Airlines worldwide have been feeling the pressure from increasing oil prices, which topped $120 per barrel for the first time earlier this week.
"Lufthansa continually monitors oil prices and will make any future adjustments to the fuel surcharge dependent on further trends in the price of jet fuel," the company said Thursday.![]()
