BRUSSELS, Belgium—Some high-speed trains from Brussels to London and Paris may be canceled next week due to a Belgian train strike, Eurostar and Thalys said Friday.
Belgium's state-owned railway SNCB had earlier warned of a possible strike on Tuesday as workers seek pay increases, saying people should avoid taking the train that day.
The strike is due to start on Monday at 10 p.m. (2000 GMT), SNCB said, and to end on Tuesday at the same time.
Thalys -- which runs services between Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam -- said it will suspend all trains from 6 p.m. (1700 GMT) on Monday until noon (1000 GMT) on Wednesday.
Eurostar was more cautious, saying there was a "strong probability" that the strike would force it to cancel most London-Brussels trains.
Both train operators advised passengers to change travel plans and exchange their tickets for alternative dates or obtain refunds from where they bought their tickets.
Brussels -- headquarters of the European Union and a tourist attraction -- attracts a large number of rail travelers who also use the city to link up with trains for onward trips to the Netherlands and Germany.![]()
