WARSAW, Poland—State figures show that Poland's jobless rate rose to 12.1 percent at the end of November from 11.8 percent the previous month.
The state Central Statistical Office said Thursday that more than 1.9 million people in the nation of 38 million were unemployed in November.
Despite the financial and economic turmoil in Europe, Poland's economy has generally held up and growth this year is expected to be around 4 percent. However, growth is forecast to drop to around 3 percent next year as many of the 17 countries that use the euro are expected to fall back into recession.
Poland has had high unemployment since the adoption of a market economy in 1990.![]()
