SOFIA, Bulgaria—Bulgaria's prime minister has called on officials in previous governments to return all bonuses to help make up for the economic crisis.

Boiko Borisov appealed Friday to all opposition parties in parliament to follow his ruling party's example to return bonuses or donate them to charity.

In response to an earlier call by the prime minister, current officials have returned bonuses worth more than euro300,000 ($400,000). Borisov had said that in times of crisis government officials cannot take additional money.

He says the previous Socialist-led government coalition paid millions in bonuses to its senior officials which now should be returned to the budget.
